Shadows Strike (Immortal Guardians #6) by Dianne Duvall

The Immortal Guardians protect the innocent in secret. Sometimes the secret gets out…

U.S. law enforcement agent Heather Lane can read minds. But not the future. The dream of battle and blood that recurs every night must be a fluke, some obscure terror from her own mind. What its significance might be, she can’t guess: an attack from seven psychotic vampires at once, only separated from nightmare by an eighth very different immortal. A handsome, brave man fighting at her side, a man she misses when she wakes.

Then the dream comes true. Heather is flung into a war between predators and protectors of humanity, the man from her dreams beside her again. Except now that she’s awake, she isn’t sure she can trust Ethan, or the shadow organization he represents. The U.S. military doesn’t trust either of them. But against an onslaught of evil like the one that’s coming, it will take everything they have just to survive…

  1. wow this one was explosive all the way though. Lots of action, mayhem, bloodshed. New enemies as per each book but this ones a doozy.
Was so happy to read Ethan and Heather’s story. I felt a little sad for poor Ethan when Lissete fell in love with Zach.
I’d guessed who the new enemy was during #5 but this release confirmed it. I also have my suspicion’s on just who and what Seth, Zach and the others are.
The new enemy is hell bent on bringing about Armageddon. Seth needs to enlist on the help of all his immortals as well as an unexpected ally. Everyone must band together if they are to save the world.
I’m so happy Cliff is still with us. I really like him and I hope he’s not killed off and finds happiness.

So. The bad bit. I have loved almost all of this series thus far but one thing that is starting to grate on my nerves is the repeated mention of the same information in each release.
This series needs to be read in order or you will lose track of who is who, whats happening where to whom and why etc etc etc.
Yet in every book it mentions the same thing as if we didn’t already know it.
IE: Vampires cant heal as fast a immortals so they bleed out and the virus consumes them in a last ditch effort to survive.
The sedative. The only drug to work against immortals. Amongst other things.
If a series needs to be read in order then this is information the reader would already be well aware of. So to me its filler and to much of it makes me start to skip through the book.
However. I highly recommend this series to any Vampire romantic lovers.
