A Vampire To Be Reckoned With ( Blautsaugers of Amber Heights #3) by R.E. Mullins

Vampire Metta Blautsauger is known as the family airhead and she works hard to keep up the façade. It’s the perfect cover as she goes from dispensing her own brand of justice as a vigilante to an agent for Orcus, the Nosferatu shadow agency.

Captured, tortured, and left for dead, she is forced to leave both the agency and Lucas O’Cuinn, the mentor she’s grown to love.

For the last century she’s struggled with regret and boredom. Then her life is given new meaning when four mortal ministers ask her help in stopping a human trafficking ring. If Orcus discovers her unsanctioned involvement, they will brand her as a rogue. The penalty is death. It’s only a matter of time before Lucas arrives—stake in hand.

Lucas O’Cuinn has waited ninety-eight years for Metta’s return and he’s run out of patience. It’s time she remembers she belongs to him.

  1. I received a ARC from R. E. Mullins for an honest review.

Not sure how I feel about this book. It’s not what I was expecting but it was not bad either.

Metta is a she-vamp who’s family see as a weak little female to be protected till she can be wed. Metta has other ideas. She’s a fighter and a woman in her own right. Metta joins Orcus (the vampire secret service as i liked to think of them.) Training is brutal more so because she is female. But Metta is not a she-vamp to underestimate. After going out on an unsanctioned mission she get captured. Metta leaves the Orcus and goes rogue working with her Holy men saving children from human traffickers.

Lucas was Mettas field master. He was responsible for what happened to her until one day he finds her strung up, whipped and comatose. Lucas can not understand the reason for her state. After nursing her back to health she leaves him. For almost 100 years he has left her alone but a spate of suspicious deaths sends him after her once again.
Lucas is questioning his loyalty to Orcus. Something is not right and he knows it has something to do with Metta.

The story would flash back to when Luke and Metta first met a hundred years before. Although it was well done I felt there was to much of it. I wanted the here and now story. It was there but I kept getting lost in the flashbacks. The story would have been better with less is more.

The romance was lacking/weak but the story was good. The sex scene was so small I actually said “huh was that it?”. It would have been better without it tbh.

Although this can be read as a stand alone I would recommend reading the previous releases first. It will give you a better understanding the characters who are in this release.

I have read the other releases but its been a while and I really should have refreshed first.
